Colonel Richard Hankinson put his dreams into action. He was a Civil War officer, an early pioneer in the expansion of the railroad, telegraph and telephone systems–bringing much-needed transportation and communication to the prairie. He developed varieties of apples right here on this property. Colonel Hankinson was also active in North Dakota politics, serving as a legislator.

“We enjoyed this past weekend immensely at Lady of the Lake. Marshall and Sandy were so welcoming right from the start. Our room was lovely and everything we needed was there. We enjoyed time out on the lake with kayaks they had and a fire on the lakeshore in the evening. The food for breakfast was amazing- 5-star restaurant-worthy. We can’t wait to go back!” – Lisa M.
